Get an alarm system? Some better ones even have pagers that will alert you the car is being tampered with, if you're too far away to hear the siren.

Stick a switch on the fuel pump cable & remember to ALWAYS turn it off when you leave the car.. it becomes a real nuisance after a while but is a cheap thing to do.

An even cheaper thing to do is just stick a blinking light in your console. Thieves will see the light & assume you have an alarm

You can add a "battery disconnect", under the hood. It would add another obvious step to the theft process, if they were gonna try to drive it away.

Go with a Viper system. I have one and love it. Also, you prob have a chip in your key, that kills the fuel pump, my viper goes over top of that and kills the ignition. They would have to tear my car apart to find my kill switch to cut the viper off and allow it to start, but they would need the key since it has the chip.
The cheapest thing to do is also make your mustang as unattractive as possible. By that I mean, don't leave any electronics, cds, or any other valuables in plain sight. We have had cars come in where they had left their iPod tuner plugged in and the iPod was in the house, but the thieves were hoping it was just hiding in the glove box. Same goes for GPS mounts. It is just commonsense, but it can be the difference b/t them hitting your car or your neighbors.

You can get a cheap alarm system or you can go all out.

On my 88 LX I had a cut off switch to the fuel pump, it works BUT like posted above, dont forget to shut it off. I've done it a few times ;/
