Default spark plug hole stripped!!!!

Last night i noticed a ticking noise, sounded like a slight exhuast leak. Then around 9:00pm i was leaving a freinds house to come home and when i started it it was much worse. So i got under the hood and looked, found that on of my spark plugs was loose. I have a 2002 GT so i have the coil packs on each plug, the noise was the gas coming out of the plug. When i tried to put the plug back in i noticed the threads on the head are stripped. Any ideas on what i should do. I was thinking about tapping new threads in.

I don't think you can do that without taking the head off. Metal shavings will fall into the cylinder. You won't be able to do that by hand anyway. Recommend you find a wrecked car and swap the head out on that side.

It depends how stripped it is.. If the entire thread is gone, some would JBweld it and tap that.

Any way you look at it, its best to remove the head, and Id say take it to a mac shop

The exact same thing happened to me this Wed. Tapping sound that sounded like a exhaust leak then a pop, puff of smoke and a coil bobbing up and down.

There are three recommended repairs that I found but wanted to know opinions on them.
1) Helicoil
2) time-sert
3) Calvan spark plug installer kit

it has happend to me as well... its a pretty common thing with the ford cars and ford trucks. i had a 2002 f-150 with the 5.4L and it shot the #1 spark plug out.. the shops wanted 1200 to fix it. I ended up buying a $40 spark plug heli coil and tap set. Just read up on it a little and hook up your shop vac and tap and heli coil it... it worked great for about 6 months then the cylinder across went out. after the other cylinder went out, i fixed it and traded it in for a dodge!

i hope your joking

heli coil first but
anyway if you have to pull the head send it to a machine shop and have steel inserts put in.
