i have a '92 2.3L LX and something is wrong with the speedometer. every once in a while it will jump up to like 110mph when im actually going 35. it sounds like something is like rubbing or catching in the dash right behind the needle. does anyone know whats up and how much it will cost to fix if i do it myself.

 

Could be the cable itself or the cruse contol mod (near the speedo gear) that bolts in the tranny...

 

Look at the cable. If there are no sharp bends in it then it probably just needs to be lubricated.

Disconnect either end. Pull the inner core out. Clean it. Lube it and reinsert. In the last 1/2" rotate it back and forth 90 deg. until it seats into the drive.

Then drive it 35mph and report back.
