Default How to get more horsepower from my 302...

I just pulled the engine out to change head gaskets and paint the engine. Since the heads are off, what else should i do to prevent further wear?? I mean what would you guys do? The compression on all cyl are 145-155 and oil pressure is good!

Also, what small mods could i do in order to gain more horsepower?

let me guys know your thoughts....

If you are at all interested in making more power. Do not put the stock heads or stock intake back on. Major bottlenecks in 5L's.

Wouldn't hurt to have a 3 angle Valve job and maybe mill the heads a little bit.

1)prevent wear... to bearing surfaces? you could polish and coat surfaces that interface with or use bearings.. you could get a new oil pump/water pump, oil cooler maybe....
2)you could have the heads milled to bring up compression slightly, make sure p/v clearance within spec
you could upgrade or change ratio of the rocker arms?

get a better intake manifold and some headers. maybe a bigger cam too. No sense doing anything to the heads if you dont have the parts to support them. High flow heads are a waste if your intake cant flow anough air to them.

I wouldn't waste my time on the heads. Stock heads are junk. Buy yourself a set of heads, an intake, and a cam and you'll have plenty of power. If you want to go the cheap route buy gt40p heads/intake.
