Default Battery Charge Light

Hello fellow Mustang owners, I have a 96 GT and it has a ton of electrical problems. In the past two years it has had two new alternators, two batteries, new fuses, distributor caps and other things. Last week I was having problems with it not starting, turns out the ground wire was loose and causing the car not to start and stall out and jerk and back fire while driving. This week my battery charge light has come on and the gauge shows the charge only being around 9 to 10 volts while driving. The gauge has been goin down slowly day by day. I have a brand new alternator and new battery each with less than 1000 miles. Cables are tight and fuses are good. Any ideas? Any comments would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

I know that you said you checked the wires, but I would test the wires coming off the alternator. I had a similar problem and replaced my alterantor only to find out later when the same problem occured that it was not the alterantor but one of the wires for it. Simple things can drive you crazy sometimes.

Ya sounds to me like there is a live wire grounding out or you might have a bad body ground?

I had a problem with the connector on the small white wire coming off the alt. The battery light would come on occasionally although I didn't notice a charge problem.

I would take it to a specialist that does auto electrical. Have them check it out.

Appreciate all the assistance guys and girls. Had my altenator tested again and believe it or not it was bad. Having the the wires replaced to cover all grounds tho. The last alternator i had was not new but rebuilt so i guess its a risk you take. Thanks for all the help, hopefully she will be running strong for a long time.
