Default Bare Metal 68?

I am in the process of restorating my 1968 Mustang Coupe, uppon starting sanding it down to the metal I had an idea. Why not sand it down to the metal, carefully workout the body flaws then apply a clear coat. Then take all of the other trim pieces (rear fender extensions, headlight cups, and various other parts) to a chrome plater to have then crime plated. Has anyone ever tryed this? Am I crazy? Is it possible? If so is there anything special i need to do to the metal to prevent rust?

No i'm thinkin highly polished. Sleak, fast, and classy, not short and clunkey. Picture it with a surfboard rack with wood accents on the roof, foglights in the grille and bad *** chrome wheels. DeLorean had black accents, I'm thinking all chrome or matal, balck interior, and one hell of a sound system

Well for one clear will not stick to bare metal very well, you need an epoxy primer on the bare metal to seal it. Two would be that in order to get the car straight you need to put filler on the body and block sand it level, then you put a sanding primer on and block that. Also it would look like crap.

Eh, BOyd Coddington did it and even starting with NEW panels, an entire body shop, and a huge budget, it still looked like poo and took a super long time.

Somewhere out there is a chrome paint... I've seen it on a few exotics... big money I've heard... Don't know anything about it though.

I just wouldn't want to be driving near you on a sunny day... I'm pulling as much chrome and ss trim off my Belvedere as I can. It's a convertible, and I just can't stand being blinded...

That car was aluminium, and delorians were stainless steel, regular old steel will not be the same.
