what year? Auto or manual? LOL - if the trans is good, it should easily hold up to 500 hp or more.

1987-1989 auto or manual. Just wondering because I've been told I would need a new transmission to hook up to the 302 I'm going to drop in, but if it can handle the HP, why would I need a new one?

is it a 4 cyl trans? They won't be able to handle the same power that the GT one would, but I would probably try it if you can't afford a better on now.

Sure T-5's are like having a fuseable link in the drive train, and they can had for next to nothing. A C4 will handle plenty of power if it has good parts put into it, and AOD less and they are costly to build.

Okay, because I will be looking at close to 400 HP with this engine, and the only mustang I'm looking at is an LX, or wanting more, the GT. A GT transmission for a 3rd generation should be easy to find if the car doesn't come with one.

There is one in the next state over for $800, engine and transmission are stripped, comes with 4.10 gears. If the body is perfect then I'm sold. If it has rust or the interior is complete trash then I'll wait, possibly by a friends Yellow 3g mustang. Only has 50k on it or less, damn thing just sits in a barn covered. I bet the engine will sell good...
