Default 02 sensors help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi guys, wonderfull day up in canada, so I was working on the car a little bit, and i was checking my engine light code, it came up with 02s 21, I checked the live data and 02s 11, 02s 12, 02s 22 all had data streaming through them exept for 02s 21, therefore the tripped code, now the question is this, does anyone know which of the 4 sensors this is? There is 2 before the cats and 2 after the cats towards the back. I also had another code called P0355 generic, ignition coil E primary/ secondary, I couldnt make any sense of this one> If I have to i will take it to dealer, but if it is just a part swap, I kinda really enjoy doing this stuff with my little guy helping me. also the code for the fist problem is p1151 if ti helps. Thank you very much guys. I almost forgot it is a 2000 gt 4.6 v8

02s21 is the second sensor on the first bank. Also known as "downstream sensor".

The first bank is the left side (drivers side), cyl 1-3-5-7. The downstream is the sensor between the cat at the muffler (or X/Y pipe). If you are getting 0 volts, could be connection, wiring, or a bad sensor. I had the same on my burb, but 02s11 (the first 02 sensor, between cat and engine on the 1st bank (left side)).

The proper voltage for a 14:1 air fuel is .45 to .48v. If you get 0, the system thinks its lean, and dumps more fuel, which will reduce your fuel mileage. My burb was getting about 2MPG with 02s11 reporting 0 volts. Never got a code that the 02 was bad, but did get a lean code on bank 1 and multiple misfires on cyls 1/3/5/7. Exhaust was black from running rich.

Ign coil E is probably the coil for the 5th cyl misfire. Check connection, ground, condition of wire (any graying on the insulation, which would indicate the insulation is breaking down and causing arcing). Also, you can try disconnecting the 5th coil and seeing if the engine runs differently. Check your spark plug, too.

One thing many shops and others dont realize is that codes often indicate symptoms. Its up to you to interpret the symptoms and try to figure whats causing it.

Good luck.
