Need help with buying a Mustang GT
I had a 96 Mustang and I loved it (http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k5...4_171216AA.jpg) if I remember correctly it had about 6 catalytic converters and that is a big downside with how expensive they can be to replace, do the 97 and 98 Mustangs still have that many catalytic converters?
I'm open to buying a 94 and up GT, what is the upside and downside to the 5.0 and the 4.6? As I understand it the 94-95's have the 5.0 and they have about 215HP, the 96-98 have 215-225HP and 99-06 have 260HP.
The 96 was a great car with enough power and the reliability was great, my budget will be $6k or less but hopefully in the $3500 price range and I guess that the mileage will be around 100k.
Any help, suggestion and advice are greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Tom

The power was the same between the 94-5 5.0s and the non-PI 4.6s, and many people will argue that the 5.0s were still faster.
The facts are, all of the above listed cars have 4 cats from the factory, the 5.0 has a huge aftermarket and is easy to work on, the 4.6 cars are all OBD2 so they can have handheld tuners to tweak on the fly
Around where I live, $6k is an alright budget for a decent car anywhere from 94-04. I just got my girlfriend a 02 GT auto with 65k miles for $6.3k

Yesterday I test drove a 99 GT (5 spd with 73k miles listed @ $6.5k) from a local dealer and it got up and went, it was a clean car but it may be a bit rich for my purposes.
