4.11 gears vs. 3.5 gears
I have a 1966 mustang with a 351 windsor and c4 (3 speed) transmission. The power is good but the gears are so damn long, and it takes so long to get into the powerband. Im currently running 2.73 gears out back but was considering swaping the 2.73's out for 4.11 gears to help acceleration. Once I have the money im going to swap to a T5 tranny, but until then would changing from 2.73 to 4.11 gears help my rpms climb quicker? Would 4.11's help my acceleration?
i have 4:10's in my 87 coupe with a t-5 and a slightly built 302 it revs very high at highway speeds i would recomend going to a 3:55, especially with a 3 speed. but yes 3:55 will help the acceleration 4:11 will even more it will be very noticable i you get on it your rpms will hit redline before you know it. in fact i have been lauching starting in second because 1st is just to short.
oo yeaa it will improve your acceleration and improve 1/4 mile time a little BUT thats a big jump from 2:73 to 4:10 you will lose mpg
and your car will top out at a lower speed
like now it may top out a 130 but after you get the 4:10s it will top out a like 100 or somthing like that.
