Default Gas gauge not working..

Hi guys!

When I bought my 71 coupe the gas gauge was not working, I checked out the back of the gauge panel and noticed that a previous owner had put new wires onto the back of the gauge and back to the fuel tank.. Now I have replaced the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit, but it still does not work.. So if anyone has an idea about what to check out, or test, please let men know..

P.s. Sorry if my english is no good, Im Icelandic..

Wiring like that, where someone has "fixed" it already has got to be the hardest to work with. I would temporarily remove the "repair". Then try to ground thee origonal wire at the sender, turn the key on and see what happens. If it don't work, trace the wire bacck towards the dash. Look for it at the door track, and ground it there, finally, ground it at the gauge. If noneee of this gets to your problem, look at the power side. Maybe bad printed circuit connection.
