Default help! cant get rear caliper back on!

well im helping a buddy of mine with his 97 GT rear roters and pads replacement

we have the new roter on and the new pads in place...we have the rear caliper depressed as far as it wil go (had the special tool)

but it will NOT go back on??

my question is the two 'pins' that are sealed with rubber boots to keep them from corroding..do BOTH of them 'float' ...because only one of them floats on his car and it seems like this may be the problem...same with other side too, except it is a mirror image

how do we get this caliper back on?? NOTE: we have the correct pads

On mine they both floated, but I only removed the top bolt and it sort of flipped up. Was a pretty basic set-up. I see you have the tool for the piston, so you gotta figure where it's hanging up.

yea, we ended up putting some PB blaster on it and smashing it with a hammer...lol

they both float now...but the other rear caliper is not depressing with the tool...it just spins and spins....

this job should not be this hard!

You shouldn't have to smash anything with a hammer..
Consider replacing whichever parts you most likely damaged in doing so.

When I'm doing brakes, 9 times out of ten.. Channel locks and a Ratchet Extension work very well.
