Default Need help with Ignition

I went to start the car like normal but when I turned my key in the ignition the key lock cylinder rotated very loosely and went beyond the normal range that I usually feel. Normally when I start my car it goes to a certain point and the engine starts, but this time the engine did not start. The battery and all of my electrical devices were engaged, but the engine ceased to start. I could also not shut off. Ive been told its some spring to plastic piece that might of fallen out of place. Does that sound like it could be it. If so how would I go about getting a guide on how to fix that. Please help.

Welcome to MF's

Sounds to me like you need to start taking your steering colum apart. It would probably be easier to replace the whole colum with a junk yard one if thats what you need.

I got a 96 mustang gt and had the same problem. All you need is a plastic thing that you can buy at ford for about 7 to 10 dollars. Your going to have to take you steering wheel off to do it, but if you want to see the problem just disconnet the plastic covers around the steering wheel to see the problem. You can see the problem from above the wheel and if you stick your head under the wheel you can see where it's disconnected when you move your key back and forth.

If you want to know how to disconnect the wheel you can buy a repair manual or just ask someone to do it. Make you sure it's done correctly because someone can jack up your air bag.

Just adding to this. If you ever need to work on your airbags disconnect the battery. Airbags aren't cheap and you don't want the crap knocked out of you trying to take a steering wheel off.

I have taken the steering wheel apart and can see the plastic thing your referring to. But any idea what that part is called. Plan on contacting Ford today to get that part ordered. Thanks.
