4.0l v6 07' Engine Swap
Hey guys. I'm thinking of replacing my stock 4.0L V6 with something with a little more giddy up. I've had my eyes on Ford Racing's 351 V8 but have doubts that the engine will fit in my engine compartment. I've been trying to find my engine dimensions so i can compare them to the larger engine at 38.50H x 36.00W x 36.50D. Can you guys give me any insight on if this is possible?
I'm fairly sure it will fit, but of course you'll need a considerable cowl hood to take care of the clearance issues. Are you sure you just don't want to buy a GT or something similar? There is a LOT of work when switching out engines, especially for your case. ECU, wiring harness, fuel pump, brakes, exhaust, tranny, rear end, radiator, fan, ....That's just to name a few of the parts to switch from a 4.0L V6 to a 5.8L V8.
Well I own a Pony which is basicly a GT minus the larger engine. I do know it would require a large amount of parts being swapped out and also during that time of changing transmissions I'd like to convert the automatic over to a manual but have heard its somewhat of a pain, but I don't plan on doing the work until I have a beater and enough cash to cover the expenses. I have a feeling its going to cost upwards of 15-20k but thats just a ballpark figure and I havent done extensive work like this before.

If you simply want the power and the *****, 20-24k can get you a beautiful '03-'04 Terminator, which IMO is the ultimate Mustang so far...
But if you want to do it to gain the automotive experience, I'd say that's a pretty cool project. Don't know much about the specifics of it, but I'd say you need either A. Extensive knowledge of the project or B. Someone to hands-on guide you through it (aka mechanic)
Just a heads up, you'll need a lot more than just a bigger motor into a V6 body to make it all work. For 20K you can have yourself a 10 (or even 9) second V6 car that you can still drive on the street.
What part of MN are you in?

I live in the Twin Cities. I have the only Vista Blue Pony so it sticks out alot. How would I go about upgrading the V6 then? And I'm also very good friends with 2-3 mechanics who are pretty damn good at what they do
I would just my either a terminator or a gt of some sort. If you use part of that money for an upgrade to a gt then you would still have enough for a supercharger, which would still fulfill you need to go fast.

Anyway, if you do decide to go with the engine swap. Be sure to leave us with plenty of pictures of the progress, I'd be really interested in seeing a 4.0L swapped for a 5.8L
