Exclamation 88 Ranger help?

I am in the middle of acquiring a 88 ranger from my aunt. It has been sitting for the past 3 years so I am not even sure if I can get it to start. I know I need to get the bad gas out of there, change the fluid, air/change tires, and new battery. Is there anything else I would need to do?
Also the reason it sat for so long is that when you would have it in first gear idling, if you did not constantly give it gas, it would die. Any ideas on what would cause this? Possible fix's?

I am on a very tight budget at the moment as I am a student and pay all my out bills.

By the way, my long term plan is dropping a 302 in it.

Edit: It is the 2.9l v6

after you do the above plus oil change (if thats what you meant by fluid) and fuel filter, maybe spark plugs/wires but not necessary yet

you can check the IAC, MAF, and TPS in that order to help with the idle

Okay. Ya i meant oil. ha.

So whats the best way to get rid of the old gas? Do I have to go in, and actaully just drain it out, or burn through it or ...?

Thanks for the help.
