Default Yet Another Question..

Man it seems like on here every other day with a question about something...A mechanic told me that my car probably has a tune from a previous owner..he says I have to get the computer reset and it cost about $250..does that sound right?? Does anyone have any suggestions for me??

First look to see if it has a chip. If not, see if you can get up with the previous owner to see if he had a tuner. If you can't, you can either 1) get over it or 2) get it re-flash with stock stuff for like 50 bucks at the dealer, and then buy your owner tuner is you want. If it already has a tune, then a new tuner wont work out of the box, because you dont have a stock tune to use as your base tune.

is it just me...or dont you WANT a 'harder' shift than stock? i have a diablo tune on my stang with 4.10 gears and ever shift throws me back in my seat....wouldnt have it any other way really!

A firmer shift is better as long as it isn't shifting hard because of a problem. A proper firm shift allows the transmission to run cooler because it minimizes the amount of slip that the clutch packs do so it doesn't create excess heat. Heat is the number one enemy of an automatic transmission. The downside to a harder shift is that it can be harder on other components such as U-joints, rear end gears, and axles if the shift is extremely harsh. Espescially if you happen to get maximum traction at that moment.
