Default Tranny problems...

So I got a 2000 GT 5 speed with 80K+ miles and well anyway when i first bought it shifting and going into gear was never a problem....Now recently like the past 2 weeks its been giving me trouble, Its extremely hard to go into first gear and even driving and shifting I have put some power to change the gears now, reverse is nearly impossible to get into unless I put it in Reverse before the car is turned on..Anyone know what the problem could be?

Maybe the clutch cable needs adjusted? Also make sure the floor mat isn't getting jammed up behind the clutch pedal... mine is always doing that and it makes for harder shifts.

Most common is the cable is too loose, maybe the pilot bearing is dragging the input shaft or the disc is falling apart and dragging on the flywheel.

How far up off the carpet is the pedal when the clutch starts to engage?

I really doubt its the floor mat its nowhere near the clutch, I cant get it into gear at all anymore....Maybe its the synchros or something? and once its in like first gear and I hold the clutch down it makes a weird noise like "whiiiissssshhhhhh" or something like that.....Reverse takes Like 50 tries just to get into

thanks fellas, Im really trying to figure out what the problem is....

i agree its most likely a lose cable but you may wanna check ur shifter knuckle where it meets the trans it may slide too much

can a loose cable do all that? I mean It doesnt go into gear and it makes a weird sound once its in gear and you hold down the clutch. I will check it out though, thanks guys

That sounds identical to my 1992 5.0 5 speed; the last time I had this problem the cable snapped after that it was fine, I was told the cable stretches before it breaks. Now a year later I am seeing some of the same issues.

i have an issue with getting it into reverse sometimes also even with the car off. trick is to hold the clutch in, put it in 5th, and then reverse. i dunno why but it works...
