Default Contemplating stang purchase

So i have been in the market for a 99-04 mustang gt for a few months now, just waiting for the right deal. I don't want to finance because i don't want to have to pay full coverage because im 16. A local lady has a 2000, red gt, auto with cobra rims and 125k miles and i talked her down to $5500. I need to know what all to look for during a test drive. I think im going to take it to a local shop and have them look over it for any problems. Is it worth it to buy one with that many miles? how much more can i expect out of the motor? the interior is spotless, advice and your opinions would be awesome. Btw my current car is a 96 taurus with 65k so i will probably sell it then use some of the money i have saved up to buy the mustang.

Hi,

Anytime i plan on purchasing a used vehicle, i take a OBD 1 or OBD 2 scanner with me so i can check for codes. Some other buyers like to do compression tests too as one way of checking the engine. You could loan out the above tools from most parts stores. Id also recomend doing a cooling system pressure test as well.

Dont forget to ask the basic questions like if it burns oil, coolant, and so forth. Do a good visual inspection of the vehicle and even jack it up to look underneath. Take a flash light too.

Hope this helps.

99-04 is a great car, easy and cheap to fix to. 125k miles is nothing. These cars can run well into the 300k range, if maintained and not beaten to death. You wont get a better bang for your buck than a GT, just dont get too excited and make sure your making a good purchase.
