Default Help. v6 94 stang

ok .well........... i had an problem with my transmission slipping with transmission fluid leaking out from ounder the right side of the car by the passenger wheel , well got that tooken care of a nd was told that my gaskets had gotten broken ... . after i got that fixed.... for an good $80.00

now the check engine light is on............and it seems like my car is all conjusted....... i have to push it down far to hard for it to stay @ normal speed of traffic......and also.........it smoked up one time from the engine.

basicly i went to this one shop that had nothing to do with engines.....that i got my breaks done on.. and had them check it with the machine . he told me that left side was 2 lean and maby he needed to fix my eletric control because it might not be reading my gas level or something........

basicly i dont have the time right now 2 get an check up for about another 2 weeks. is the car safe 2 drive ? its running real conjusted. and stuffy. has any one had this problem? ithought itwas the transmission so i got that checked now its the check engine light and not slipping but running reall stuffy.........any answers? thanks alot guys!

Hi,

The o2 sensor on bank one is indicating a lean running condition. Basically theres too much oxygen left over from the combustion cycle on bank 1.

You can test most o2 sensors with a DVOM and your going to be looking at how quick they can switch. The usually switch from 0.2 to 0.8 millivolts. Id also look for vacuum leaks, checking the fuel pressure, checking the pulse-width of the injectors and so forth. Places like Autozone will loan out Noid lights to so you can check to make sure the injectors are been fired. Any cracks in that banks exhaust manifold or pipe will also give false readings to the o2 sensor.

If you can find somone with a good scan tool, you will be able to check alot of the freeze frame data ect as well as conducting a cylinder balance test and so forth.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

You can test the o2 sensor yourself with a DVOM or Volt meter but you would need a wiring diagram so you know which wires to probe.
I would still check the engine over for vacuum leaks and such like i stated n my previous post and go from there. The o2 sensor may and probably is fine and not the problem but o2 sensors will become 'lazy' after around 50k miles.

Now if you observed white smoke coming from the exhaust, you may have been burning coolant. Make sure you check your coolant level. You could even pull a few plugs to see how they look. Is they look like new and you know there several years old, you know that your burning the coolant. You can also check your oil for a 'milky' residue.

For the loud rattling sound, can you describe that alittle more in detail? Does it sound like valve tapping, rods knocking ect?

Hi,

Does it sound like more of a vibration than a rattling noise?

Have you had someone place the vehicle in drive and popped the hood and inspected the engine bay while they have here foot on the brakes (and the parking brake too )?

I would look at the exhaust area and check for a loose heatshield, corroded hangers and so forth.

Remember that when your in park or neutral, the engine is free-wheeling, where as if its in gear and you have your foot on the brake, its under a load still, if that makes sense.

Hope this helps somewhat.
