Question warranty question

Ok guys i recently had a cel light come on in my car. I took it in and they said it was a bad fuel. I thought my car only has 33k miles cant believe the fuel pump was bad. Anyways im looking to add some mods to my car and was wondering if adding a cai or axelback exhaust would void my certified pre own warranty from ford. I dont want any probs if i have to bring it in to the dealer and they say they wont cover it because i have a cai or a new muffler.. Any ideas >?

Best to take care of the issue before any mods

im pretty sure they have to be able to prove that the aftermarket part caused the malfunction. they will try to tell you otherwise to cover their asses, but if they cant prove that your exhaust or CAI caused something to go wrong, then its still a warranty case.

I would fix the problem first like mentioned above, just to avoid any complications you might encounter if you do.

What I've found with lately is that they are really enforcing the idea of "any aftermarket mod is considered an alien part" (those words are from a rep at the Ford ESP office, directly!) and that they treat it as such.

Now, that being said, I agree with the other posters above. They need to prove the modification caused said warranty issue to be the problem.

But, and here's where I see a difference in the way warranties are being enforced, they are trying harder than hell to get out of covering warrantied vehicles if there's been a modification (any change to the vehicle once its out of Ford's Factory).

This doesn't negate the fact that they still *must* prove that the mod caused the problem you are seeking to have repaired under warranty.

I attribute this higher scrutiny of warranty coverage on modified vehicles to the down economy, and that auto companies aren't as willing to take care of their customers if they've "done their own thing" to their vehicle.

This is speculation on my part. So, that's my idea... FWIW.

As a poster said to me not long ago when I had a warranty question -- "Fear Ford, or go on your happy modding ways and live another day."
