Painting rock chips
I couldn't find any threads on this subject and I hope I'm posting this in the right area...
I've got a few rock chips on my Mustang and I have purchased touch-up paint for it. My question is what is the best way to paint in those rock chips without having to do much buffing and sanding so that the touched up area doesn't look or feel touched up.
I had touched up a tiny rock chip on my other Mustang, but ended up getting a lip around the area I had masked off.
I could wet sand it with some 2000 grit sand paper to sand down the raised areas, but wouldn't it leave a not so shiny area where it was wet sanded?
I'm kinda new to this kind of thing... sorry if I sound like a retard.
I appreciate any suggestions or recommendations. Thanks!

Depending on the size, the way I do it is:
1. Put a light on the spot.
2. Put the smallest dab of paint I can on the end on a toothpick
3. Lightly tap the chip until the paint forms a bubble just slightly higher than the surrounding paint.
4. Immediately (but very, VERY softly) wipe it off with a soft cotton cloth or q-tip.
5. Repeat until the touchup paint is at the same level as the surrounding paint (usually three or four applications and wipes).
It takes awhile, but I usually can't tell where I touched up after it dries and I'm pretty obsessive about my car's paint.
Hope this helps!

It does not take long between coats. Usually 15-20 mins (depending on temperature and humidity level) with very, very thin coats, and if you're going to add clear coat after the base, it's best to wait about 24 hours for the base to dry. ^_^
