I have a v6 1996 stang, the only gear that works is 4th, I was driving on the interstate, heard a loud click, pulled over and when I got back in that was the only working gear. Any ideas? It wont even go into the gears, usually.. I managed to get it in 1st today, but it didn't move.

 

Manual or automatic? I am assuming manual. If so you probably have a shift fork problem.

 

sounds to me like someone is going to need to replace their tranny!

 

Same thing happened to me loud whine and then boom and only 4th gear!!!!!
