The 65 and the 96 are different designs but that's not saying the correct tool will not work for the other year. There are many different styles of compressors out there.

The rears can easily be done with a compressor.

WHOA!! HOLD THE PHONE!! That is somebodies homemade piece of crap. DO NOT BUY IT!! Working with coil springs is far too dangerous to trust somebodies home built junk. Besides, it's too expensive and that design won't work on your '96. You want something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MACPH...item3358088ecd or this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Power...item230428f774 or this, but this will not do the ones on your 96:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/COIL-...item5188e7a89e

I didn't even use a spring compressor to install my eibach's into my 97' GT. if you disconnect everything off the front control arm (struts and what not) you can lower it down enough to twist the spring and it will come right out without compressing it. to get the new one in stick the top of the spring in place and line the lowest point of the spring to get it onto the arm. then just twist the spring tell it locks into the notch for the bottom of the spring.

Not using a coil spring compressor on McPherson strut springs is a good way to get your head torn off by the spring when it comes un****ed.
