Do you not do your own oil changes? That's a helluva lotta money for an oil change.

no point for synthetic if you change oil every 3000 miles. That's what the chemical engineers I know say. but what do they know anyway? ask the dudes at pep boys instead. The reason for synthetic is that it lasts longer before breaking down, and it supposedly has better detergent properties, but you only need those detergent properties if you don't change your oil every 3k miles.

That should work. As long as you change your oil every 3k or however long the synthetic says, anything should work fine. I only spend like $14 on my oil changes (I've used Havoline and Valvoline w/ Fram tough guard), but I always change the oil every 3k.

I think you "can" change synth every 6000 miles. Actually, if you look in the scheduled maintenance booklet that came with your stang, it recommends an oil change every 5k miles, not 3k.

I've used syth now for 10 yrs on all my cars with 10k mile changes. I offset the higher price by changing the oil (myself) half as often, which is GREAT. According to everything I've read (a lot of stuff), good syths like Mobil 1, Amsoil, Redline can go 18-20k miles before any big change in performance. Also syths don't loose their additives like regular oil. They just need to have the filter changed at 12k to get the dirt out. so an oil change at 10k works fine. at least it has for me. the price up-front still looks high. $5 for one little quart. My stang needs 6 of those things....

Different synthetics are engineered to last different lengths of time. They say on the bottle.
