Default Uh oh: How to remove rubber from upper strut bushing retainer

Hey all. I'm replacing my upper strut bushings with urethane ones. Hit a snag: I removed the lower rubber from the strut dust shield and now I'm trying to figure out how to remove the rubber from the metal retainer itself so that I can place the new urethane piece on. I've been attacking with an Xacto knife but at this rate I will finish in approx 3.5 years. Any tricks/tips? I don't have a dremel handy or anything similar .

Boil it??

theres a press you can buy/rent from most auto parts stores, but if its all new replacement, grab a drill and go to town on the rubber. Afterwords a hammer, punch, extension, socket, and a little bit of quit being a ***** will get them out.

Yea...so that's not what I'm talking about. I was talking about the bushing in the strut tower. Either way, I figured it out: propane torch + razor blade.
