disc brake conversion
i'm brand new to this forum; this question has probably been beat to death, but here goes: i would like to convert my "66 convt. to disc fronts. the kit, (power brakes, automatic, v/8) from master power brakes looks like a good prospect, but in looking thru some of the postings, there seems to be a real problem with boosters that are ng right out of the box. my question is does this pertain to those received from mpb, or were those generic references? also, are there any surprises in the mpb kit that i should be aware of before i buy. also, should i look elsewhere for a different kit. thanks for your help.
I have a MP setup on the front of my 65 covt. My MC failed but I have a somewhat unique situation. I got several years of use out of it then the car was parked for several years due to a bad engine. When I got the car back on the road this past fall, the main shaft seal started to leak. I assume this was due to the seal drying up over the parked period. I went to Napa and got a new one for about 60 bucks.
I run my brakes unboosted. It stops very well and the effort is just right for tearing up the back roads. You can always add the booster later if you find that the effort is too much for you. FYI, I run discs front and big drums rear.
