On my 89 LX, I noticed a light that looks to be coming from under the [missing] ashtray on the center console by the fold down armrest. I see the glow of the light at night when the lights are on haha... Any clue what this may have been intended for?

Yeah one of the illumination bulbs probably fell out of it's holder and is now dangling by its wire, still glowing.

I had a new 1989 lx5.0 back in the day. If memory serves, the ashtray had a clear plastic part that the light you are talking about used to illuminate the ash tray so our friends who smoke could see it at night.

Ohhhh ok. My ashtray is missing, and the door doesn't stay down, so I need to address those issues all at once. Thank you!
