Default Rear axle end assembly

I have a 97 Mustang GT. I need to get the rear end replaced and found some ones that are in good shape. My question is that I understand I need an 8.8 rear end axle assembly, but what I don't know is do I need an 3.08 or a 3.27? I'm not familiar with this. I do not have posi-traction now either. Any help or advice as to which to get so I can get my mustang running good again would be great. Thanks again for all your help.

There may be a tag on one of the differential cover bolts that will provide the info you seek. Auto or manual trans makes a difference too. The manual trans probably would have the higher number.

I have a manual transmission. And I found out that the numbers 3.08 and 3.27 are gear ratios. So you believe it is the higher number for me?

It is a good possibility, but check for the existence of the tag first, rather than play guessing games.

Get the 3.27 and a GT should have come from the factory with a TracLok rear.
