Default New audio system - help needed!!!

I have 2000 GT with Mach sound system and I would like to completely replace it with aftermarket stuff as I want to have deeper bass (not to crazy) and ability to listen to my MP3s from the mp3 player.

I need help choosing head unit, sub box and speaker, component system and the amplifier.

I consider buying used amp and used head, but new speakers as they could be blown if I buy them used.

I looked into customfit (molded) sub enclosures which would fit in the trunk.

My budget is $1000.

I appreciate your help.

I had the base system in my 04 GT and I went on craigslist and found Boston Acoustic 5x7's for my doors and rear deack for $90. Had an older Rockford Fosgate Punch 2 channel 400W amp powering my internal speakers. Then found a 400W mono MTX amp and powered a Pioneer 350W rmp 10" sub in a custom box that I built in my trunk.

Just in parts I spent $240 and I can drive 70mph with the windows down and still hear my music fine. I highly suggest getting speakers and put an amp to them.

If I had $1000 to drop. I would get a 4 channel amp, a 6.5" component setup for the doors and some 5x7 coax for the rear deck. Remove the whole amp/box from under the rear deck. Get a mono amp for a 10" sub and make a custom box for it in the trunk off to the side where the Mach 1000 subs sit. I actually used the existin hole in the trunk where the Mach1000 subs use to hold down my box.

I need to get some pics of what I did.

I am more thinking about component (hi&low) speakers in the front (nothing on the rear) and the Mach 1000 type sub in trunk (fits on the left side of the trunk so I can have full access to spare tire and still have some room)

According to crutchfield onlu 5 1/4 components will fit in front doors. Aren't they too small?
It also says that I need kick panels ($179) if I would like to use 6 3/4 speakers or even 6 1/2

Just because you want components in the front I would still put speakers in the rear deck. Or just upgrade the front components, replace the rears with 5x7 drop in's and get rid of the factory amps.

6.5" woofers will fit in the doors. they sell an adapter plate to put a 6.5" in a 5x7".

here is the link to a thread dealing with exactly this:

no problem. Let me know if you have any more questions. I went through the same thing and learned a lot about audio in general when I redid mine.

Awesome website of anything audio/electronic...I spent hours reading here.

depends what size subwoofer you go with...8" 10" 2 10's 12" 2 12's...

each sub requires a specific range of internal volume. I made a box for my single 10" to .75 ft^3
