alarm disables starting
i have a 95 mustang gt and I had to replace the odometer gear, therefore I had to take the dash apart. after replacing the gear the alarm does not arm.
the car will not start unless I hold down a button located under the steering column. Everything else works fine with locking and unlocking the doors.
the alarm light does not flash. there must be a way to reset the alarm.
the alarm is from ford. any suggestions would be great.
thanks,
mike

what button do you have to push? I would guess it is an aftermarket and you are holding down the valet button or something as I am not aware of an button on the stock alarm. Give as much info as you can on the brand, I installed security for over 10 yrs so hopefully I/we can help.
it is a ford alarm and i guess it's the valet button.
the alarm box has the 1-800-ford-key number on it to call and get faxes, but i've tried
and have not received anything. i've called the dealer and they said they do not fix alarms because cars don't usually come with an alarm. I believe you can purchase the ford alarm and have it installed.

go back and double check that one of the hrns's didn't get loose when you put it back together. The gauge hrns's are hard to reach and seat properly so I would start there.
Now ford dealers farmed out alot of their alarms to different people but the true ford factory keyless/alarm does not have a button that I am aware of. I might be wrong but I have installed counless alarms and just never seen one. Is it a silver toggle switch or a small momentary push button? Follow the wire back from that switch and see if you can read a brand like CODE or DEI and also double check that all the hrns's that should be are plugged in and seated.
