My extensive research concluded that in city driving A/C will kill your mileage, better to keep the windows down, but at freeway speeds, having the windows down reduces the coefficient of drag sufficient enough that running your A/C is more efficient.

i couldnt agree more!

bottom line is.....Gas mileage doesnt matter when it comes to the stang. If your hot, put a window down, still to hot, turn a/c on (in my case i have dont use the ac at all-its top down, chrome spinnin for me all the way). If you want good mpg, go down to the local car dealer and ask to see there fleet of imports or if you want a ford or gm...theres always the super quick ford escorts and Chevy Cavaliers!!

I care about mileage with my Mustang, definitely. When I'm just puttering around in it, I get it up into 5th gear asap, and go light on the pedal. When I want to get out and stomp it, I do so, and my mileage gets killed for it. But I like to know that I can get decent mileage out of it when I want to.

I like to see exactly how low I can make my mileage. It's an easy way to see how much *** you can haul during the life of one tank.

as far as the "myth" goes.....it's more fuel efficient to run with the windows down until you get up to certain speeds (depends on the car).

However, fug that. If I'm hot, I'm cranking up the A/C.

I cut the a/c off when I'm low on gas and long way from the gas station, for that little extra yard.

they did this thing on the show Mythbusters that wide open windows is much better than having the A/C on full blast. I could only imagine what my mileage would be if i used the A/C, i get 6-10 as it is now, DOH! [:@]
^^^exact opposite. The difference was VERY minimal concerning MPG on the explorers they used...i beleive 2 tenths of a mile per gallon (11.6 with a/c full blast and 11.4 with all windows open). This was because of the amount of drag that was created by the windows being down. However that experiment dealt with the two extremes and no middle ground simply because of all the variations. For instance are you going to drive around with your a/c on full blast for extended periods of time...probably not. Mustangs take little time to cool or heat the passenger compartment considering the small size of it so you'll prolly lower the power a few nothes after a while unless u plan on driving around in a winter jacket as the mythbusters did. Also you may be the only passenger in your mustang so you wouldn't put the passenger side window down. It all really depends but when measuring normal usage of either the windows or the a/c you will not notice much of a difference

i didn't see it, but mythbusters is so stupid. they never actually come up with anything representing real life. whoever started this thread should do an experiment of their own at tell us the results.

Explorers have a much bigger area in the back to catch air than a stang does so of course the drag is much higher its like comparing drag on a grocery bag and a black lawn bag. I prefer to lose the top and the drag though
