Common Myth?

RE: Common Myth?
to answer your poll I think wind resistance out weighs AC at +/- 45 mph.. and I drive top down almost all the time. In fresno it feels like a convection oven especially with a black car black leather interior, but I still have to have the top down otherwise I am wasting the fact that I have like the slowest V8 mustang ever built and an extra 40 lbs for a rag top.

one other parameter that would influence me to put the AC on is the wife...it doesn't matter how nice it is outside, as soon as she gets in the car, the AC comes on and the windows up...
AND YOU WANNA KNOW WHY?
Because the humidity will make her hair go flat. Interesting things you learn when you get married

Explorers have a much bigger area in the back to catch air than a stang does so of course the drag is much higher its like comparing drag on a grocery bag and a black lawn bag. I prefer to lose the top and the drag though

Don't be a cheap bastard.....if you're really hot, use the damn air conditioning or take the thing off the engine all together. I have a convertible but there are still some summer weather conditions I'll put the air on instead. Ya, l agree with Shifty, air at highway cruise is fine but around town or stop and go traffic, windows with air off will definitely give you more mileage. I have underdrive pulleys so the extra drag effect of the air conditioning compressor is reduced and mileage doesn't suffer as much.
