5.0 vs 5.8
Hi everyone. i am new to the site and i had some questions about the 302 and 351. i was going to rebuild a 5.0 for an 89 but a friend of mine is trying to talk me into using a 5.8 instead. he said the biggest difference he likes about the 351 is the crank has bigger bearings and will take more "abuse". so far all i know about the difference between the two engines is the 351 wont produce as many revvs. (or so im told, correct if wrong). my question is which engine is better for my 89? thanks in advance. luke

Depends on what you want to do. 302 can be turned into a 347, a 351 can be turned into a 408. The 351 uses some different parts and is bigger and heaver. A 347 would look just like a 302 on the outside, but can make a ton of power. You also have to keep in mind that you need a suspension and transmission/rear that can handle the power. And how much abuse something can take depends on the parts used. A fctory 302 block though is good to around 500-550 at the crank with a safe tune.
