low speed vibration
This past weekend I purchased a 1999 Mustang with a 3.8l and automatic with 80,000 miles. When I test drove the car I could tell that there was a vibration that felt like driving over rumble strips. At approx. 35 MPH the car would smoothe out quite well. I figured that there was a tire issue so I used this a a bargaining tool with the dealer.
I've taken the car to several tire shops, all say that the tires are fine. One guy suggests that the vibration is coming from the drivetrain. A dealer is suppose to check it out this afternoon. When I ask them they seem lost. Have any of you experienced a vibration problem like this? How well does the transmissions hold up on these cars? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Frank

I have a 00 Automatic V6 and mine does the same thing at around those speeds, and then like you said it smoothes out and stops. So let me know what happens after it get's checked out.

The dealer says that the bushing in the tail shaft housing is worn out. I guess that this has been going on for quite a while because it has damaged the housing. Anyway, this is allowing the driveshaft to flop around. Replacing the housing, bushing and seal, $250.00. It will be repaired by tomorrow evening. I'm pleased with that.
Later, and thanks,

Hi! I am from Warner Robins as well. I have been looking for a car for my daughter and was wondering which dealership you purchased your vehicle. I have been avoiding used car lots because they can be so underhanded and over pricing their vehicles.
Anyway, are you happy with whom you worked with?

Hey Leadfoot,
I purchased the car from a used car dealer on Watson Blvd. The name of the business is "Route 66" and this is the first dealings I've had with them. It's mom and pop start up operation, no pressure and very good prices. I have no other business affillation with them.
