HAVE A 1999 GT AND HAVE STARTED HEARING A WHINE COMING FROM THE REAR AREA.HAVE 620000 MILES

 

I'm assuming you meant 62,000 miles. Anyways sounds like your rear gears. Does the noise get louder in relation to your speed? Have you had gears installed?

 

At 620,000 miles you should hear alot of whining. I know you didn't mean it, 62,000 more likely. Have someone check your rearend fluid for proper level and/or just replace it with one of the premium synthetic rearend lubes out there. Royal Purple, Redline, Amsoil just to name a few. Your gears should run and sound much better after the change. If a bad whine still persists after a few days of running the car with its new rearend fluid, then possible mechanical repair may be necessary. It may just be low or has run its course due to your driving style. I'd vote for a full fluid change myself. Good luck!
