Brake Fires!
They could probably be used with both sets of pads. Call someone like Wilwood and ask, since the pads do put down a transfer layer of material, so there MAY be issues with pad swapping...but I doubt it. Honestly though they have dual purpose pads that will work well in both environments. The drawback for street use is they're noisy and dirty.
I found the source of the brake fires! I was installing new pads today and when i took the pads off i noticed that one of the calipers piston boots was melted on each caliper. This caused brake fluid to seep out and touch the hot surfaces catching fire. Does anyone know where to find service parts for the Cobra calipers? I might end up having to buy new ones, or it will give me an excuse to buy the cobra R brakes. Do the cobra R brakes fit in a 17in wheel?
Those boots aren't what keep the fluid in. There are o rings that go around the piston inside the caliper. If fluid is coming out then the calipers need to be rebuilt. Those boots are just dust shields. Are you sure fluid is leaking out and it's not just a grease for a pin(if it's floating calipers).
Also, if the o rings did fail that means the brakes were running harder than they can handle. If that's the case(and it's not just a matter of a lot of miles) then you should consider upgrading to calipers designed for that.

I know that they do not keep the fluid in. I figured that the boots melted exposing the caliper pistons to dust and grime. This then caused the piston seals not to seat properly and seep fluid. IDK, maybe the fires were from the rubber boot catching fire. I will know more when i tear them apart. All i do know is my brakes were getting mighty hot and i will need to fix my ducting to provide some cool air down there. I plan to use a 3 in in line fan, and removing my fog lights to position the ducts to some direct cool air to fix that problem. I purchased another set of Hawk HPS pads for the street and a few sets of Hawk DTC-60 Race pads for the track. I also purchased a few sets of rotors for the track pads only. I think this will fix my brake problems at the track. I will keep them cool, and have a set of pads ready to take the abuse of the open track.
