Default What kind of stereo systems fit in a 2002 mustang

Title says it all. I'm 16 and for a first car I got a 2002 Ford Mustang but the stereo system is really bad and I have been looking for a new one but I have no idea what would fit in my car. (The stereo system in it now is a MachMP3)

From the sounds of it, your car doesn't have even the Mach 460 sound system in it. Is this correct? If so I'd replace the factory head unit and get 4 6x8 speakers and be done for now. If you want it to sound really good be sure to amp those speakers, speakers respond much better when they're given the power they're intended to have. If you want to add a subwoofer be sure to get a head unit with 6 pre-amp outputs (if you're going to amp the speakers, which I highly recommend doing).

All I can tell you is that it says MachMP3 on the left side and it sounds terrible and what kind of speakers would fit and be a good buy as well? I can't tell you anymore because my car is in the shop getting a replacement engine.

Hmm, I don't think that was ever an optional head unit. Someone probably put it in in place of the base head unit. My Dad's '02 Ranger has this same deck and it hasn't been bad. I'd start off with speakers and go from there.

These would be pretty good speakers to start with. Get 2 pairs of them (front doors and rear deck) and powered off just the head unit it should sound better than it is now. In the future you can upgrade the head unit and amp these speakers (Alpine deck with their power pack amp is very easy to install). Those speakers, once fed ~80w RMS, should sound excellent. If you're hungry for bass, subs aren't hard at all to install.
