Default Transmission problem?

I recently got a 96 gt and a week ago the car, without previous problem, wouldn't get out of first gear. if i take it to 3000 rpm and slowly let of the gas second will catch, all other gears shift fine. before i go to mechanic i want to know if there are any common problems that may cause this. for example the car has a cool air intake and a freind said that it may just be a problem with that system. is this true? any suggestions? dont want to give up the cash 4 a new tranny if i dont have to. thanx

im going to move this to the correct area, but i am curious, what part of the section title "ride of the month" lead you to believe that this was a technical section?
