I bought my 2002 convertible a couple months ago. Just after I got it I replaced front brake pads, and one was wearing really unevenly. I'd never seen this before, the 'top' of the pad was worn all the way down, but bottom still had about 3/8" of pad left. It was only 1 pad, so I figured it was installed wrong or something. Today I took calipers off to paint them, and pad is wearing the same way, like the 'top' 1/2" is wearing more than the rest of it. The only thing I could think is that the 2 halves of the caliper aren't sliding very freely. It did kinda look like it needed more grease on the slider/guide things between the 2 parts of the caliper. Anyone have any insights into this? Thanks

That sounds about right. The bottom pin is not sliding correctly. Check the slide pins and see if they are worn/pitted/damaged in any way. If they are then replace the pins. Also check the rubber boots that they go into. If they are damaged, they could be pinching the pin making it not move as freely. Also check the rails that the pads slide on. If they are worn or damaged, they could be preventing the pads from moving. Good luck...
