'94 5.0 Idle Degrades??
Hey All,
I've been working on my buddy's 1994 GT 5.0HO and am having trouble tracking down an idle problem that it has:
The car runs great. But if you sit at a light for a few minutes the idle seems to start to degrade and the longer you sit the worse it gets. This is what I know:
-Brand new battery (as in yesterday).
-Charging system is working (14.5v+ @ 750RPMs)
-Timing looks good on first blush (13*).
-Plugs/wires/cap/rotor are good, if not new.
I hooked my timing light w/ tach up and let it idle in the shop: After it warmed up, the idle dropped from 780rpm or so after a few minutes all the way down to the upper 600's and the engine starts to lope a bit.
Oddly, the only gauge moving on the dash in the Volt Meter and it dips w/ every lope in the engine.
Blip the throttle and all is well for a minute until the idle starts to dip again.
I know the idle is non-adjustable on the 5.0...
Any ideas out there? I've never had a car where the idle is fine & then slowly degrades over a few minutes...
Thanks!
