Default Speedometers

I just bought an 89 Coupe. Speedometer only goes to 85 MPH. Does this mean that the car was originally a 4 cyl ?

Thanks...

No, it was that era car. All US auto speedometers only went up to 85 for a period of time in the late '70's through late '80's. I had an '85 T-Bird Turbo Coupe with an 85 mph speedo. What a joke. I think I could peg it in 3rd gear no sweat. I just bought the Ford Motorsport 140 mph substitute and made the change in about 30 minutes or less. It is electronic so no tranny gear change was necessary. I think you can still find them at one of these sites:

www.mustangsunlimited.com

www.brothersperformance.com

www.racerwalsh.com

Good luck and can the 85 mph speedo. It sucks big time!
