Default Mods Affect Warranty ?

Yeha my ******* dealership told me and my dad that if I put on a catback exhaust and a CAI it will void the whole car's warranty and they won't work on it. f**k them I'll take my business elsewhere.

Dan, you got very lucky. My uncle is the Director of Service at the 6th ranked dealership in the nationhere in Tampa,(number1 ranked in Roush Mustang sales in the nation)and a cai can discontinue your warranty on your car if Ford asks for a pic of your engine bay, cpu, ect... Its not up to the dealership when a serious issue occurs with a vehicle. If you lower your car, touch the cats, add headers, install a chip, install a maf, any of these CAN bite you in the butt if you don't slip through the cracks.. Heres an example, guy comes in dealership with a blown diesel engine in his 1 year old truck. Warranty was going just fine, they were getting ready to replace the engine when ford asked for several pics of various places of the truck. Ford saw a K&amp;N air filter,contacted my uncle, declined the warranty, and on top of it all, cancelled all warranty for the remainder of the 3/36 term.. You really gotta be careful, and take everything off your car before trying to make a claim with your dealership of a major problem... hope you take me seriously, Ford has really cracked down on this. they lost like 25 million in 2001due to modifications made to vehicles and causing damage to them according to Ford,but they went ahead and covered them anyways. sorry for the book I just wrote, just trying to help..</P>

This is the truth too, until you do internal modifications.</P>

But,ultimately a manufacturer or dealership have a lot more money, a lot better lawyers &amp; aren't afraid to fight it outin court. It really depends on who you take it to, and how willing they are to stick by the book. </P>

I don't think I'm lucky, my brother just lost the 5.4 liter in his 2003 F150 with 20,000 miles on it, he had a CAI, modified intake &amp; aftermarket cats &amp; mufflers hung on it, took it to an entirely different Ford dealership than I did and they covered it, no questions asked. <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"></P>

</P>

Here is the simplest way to find an answer, go take a ride down to your local Ford Dealership, ask them what they feel about doing modifications and there is your answer. <IMG src=smileys/smiley20.gif border="0"></P><edited><editID>Dan02GT</editID><editDate>37971.5941319444</editDate></edited>

That sounds great Dan, but if Ford steps in and request pics, or better yet, if a Ford rep comes to the dealership, you are screwed. Yes you can print out a paper stating that, but then you have to hire a lawyer, one good enough to fight against Ford... and most people aren't gonna do this. But, you can slip through the cracks like the example you provided, thats possible. Also, if you know the right people, you don't have a problem<IMG src=smileys/smiley20.gif border="0">

A Ford rep saw my motor sitting at the dealership with my mods done to it...gave them the go ahead to replace it under warranty...<IMG src=smileys/smiley10.gif border="0"></P>

Best thing to do is, go have a little chat with your local Ford dealership. </P>

So the way I look at it is Ford is trying to be a monopoly. IfI want to put on a chin spoiler I better go to Ford buy from them and let them put it on so my car's warranty won't be void. Cause everyone knows if my power windows freeze or some little stupid part breaks it could be the chin spoiler I installed myself and they could void my warranty. Or if I get my windows tinted and my engine blows up they could void the warranty because the windows are tinted. Soon if Ford starts selling gas and you don't buy from them the warranty will be voided. And what happens if you change your own oil or if you get a business other than the dealership to do it you warranty is voided. Basically what I'm saying is their rules are very undefined. My Ford dealership is trying to dick me overas far as the mods and warranty thing go. I'll just go elsewhere, but it will make think before I buy another Ford.

Default Mods Affect Warranty ?

From my experience at the dealership where I purchased my car. That was the first thing I questioned. I asked if bolt ons would effect warranty and they said no .I further questioned it because it was a used car and I wanted to purchase the extended warranty and because it already had a MAC CAI. I questioned it for a good 30mins and they even called a tech in to answer. I said are you sure it doesn’t void warranty because It already has a Cold air intake, so if modding voids warranty isn’t it already voided. They told me I was able to do whatever bolt ons I wished and it wouldn’t affect my warranty.

You can talk ignorant all you want, but I am telling you how Ford runs their business. If you want to play the game and you happen to pick the wrong card, its your ***. I am not worried about it personally, I am taken careof when I want to do internal mods, install gears, lower my car, add nitrous, supercharge it, take the cats out,whatever I wanna do, because I know people, and can have my car wiped clean before ford even knows about the problem. And, to beat it all,Myuncles techs, or my dads techs domy work for free...Now thats a hook-up!!!! I love Family with connections..<IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0"><IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P><edited><editID>redneck101</editID><editDate>37972.4970023148</editDate></edited>

you don't need to hire a lawyer - you wouldn't need to argue at all if you went to court over it, the law is very clear on this - ford would have to prove that your bolt on caused the problem. Believe me, they do not want to go to court over voided warranties beucase of bolt ons - they know they are going to lose, its alot easier, and cheaper, to just do your work.</P>

when you go to a dealership don't take the word of the ******* service manager - if he isn't working with you - go above him. don't be timid and let some piece of s**t tell you that your warranty is voided when it isn't. </P>

Hey, good luck with that man.. I give up on helping anyone... I am not guessing about what will happen.. If you have gotten something covered under warranty with mods, you got lucky, and it will not happen everytime. As for me, I don't give a rats butt if anyone listens to what I am trying to say, my a$$ is covered regardless...<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>
