Default Meatier tire in the back?

I have some 17 inch bullit rims that desperately need new tires. I was thinkin just put 245/45 on, but then one day i heard someone put 275/40 on the back..Does this improve handling greatly or is it pretty much unnecssary and i should just go with 245's all around?

Default RE: Meatier tire in the back?

Bigger tire in the rear will improve acceleration and engine breaking, if it reduces wheel spin on up shift and downshift. They will also last longer in comparison to smaller tire that takes the same amount of abuse. Now as far as handling goes, I don't know.
