Default cam endplay and thrust plate question

hey everyone

got a question about endplay in my cam. i have about .060 endplay in my 1965 289. i have been so confused and frustrated with this thing, but i think im getting close to figuring it out

i have read so much stuff and talked to so many people that endplay. this is what i have figured out so far but just need some confirmation.

im rebuilding my 289 for my 1965 coupe. there is about .060 endplay (not sure what the actual number is, i have it wrote down at the house) i talked to the camshaft company and compared measurement of the camshaft snout and the timing gear. both theirs and mine measured the same. the only thing that we didnt talk about was the thrust plate.

then after searching all over for the last week, i finally found 1 lone post that said ford put a thinner thrust plate in SOME of the 289s. so im hoping this is my problem.

should i just get a new thrust plate? does anyone know the width of their thrust plates?
