Question How do tire pressure sensors work

I just bought a 2012 Mustang coupe and am putting on winter tires and rims. I have purchased 4 tire pressure sensors for the new rims. What I want to know is: (a) do they have to be programmed so the computer will know which sensor is on what tire, and (B) how does the data get from the sensor to the computer, is there a receiver near each tire or do they send data directly to the computer?
What happens when I rotate the tires next year?

If you have individual read of tire pressures, you need to have it programmed at each rotation. Tire shops and the dealer are prepared for this. You can buy a programmer, as well. I've seen them from $50-$150, but can't say how well they work.

It is a wireless transmitter that sends directly to the car's reciever. I believe that is a separate module under the dash, though it may be integrated by now.

The air pressure sensor is inside the tire, it uses RFID, so it does not need power. There is a transmitter-receiver near each tire that has sends out a radio frequency signal to the sensor and the sensor sends back the tire pressure.
I have a 2012 and two complete sets of tires and wheels, when I change them out I need to reset each sensor. It takes a sensor tool that looks like a garage door opener. Instructions came with the sensor tool. American Muscle has the sensor tool and a video on how to use it. It takes about 5 minutes to reset them.
