Default Clinking steering noise.

First off, Its a 1999 v6 manual. In the cold mornings every slight turn causes a clinking sound plus a catch/release type jerking feeling. After a few miles and the motor gets warm, It only happens when the steering wheel is completly turned left or right (happens in both directions).

So I lifted the front end and took off both tires and checked for any type of rubbing and clearance issues with the brake system. Everything checked out. I also thought maybe a tire was loose and causing it. So I put the tires back on (lugs in star formation) droped the car and torqued them down. Went out for a little drive/shopping trip. When I got home I retightend the lugs and tried doing a u-turn on my little road. The same problem presists. This morning when it was cold out it was doing a little better but a normal right hand turn cause the sound and feeling again.

Any thoughts? I am fairly sure the problem is in the steering box (or what ever its called).

Any thoughts would be awesome.

And btw WTF is this > lol. thats great.

Could be alot of things. I'd start by checking out the steering shaft (shaft between the rack-n-pinion and the steering wheel). Have a buddy turn the steering wheel back & forth and look for any play in the u-joints in the shaft. There should be no play. If there is, replace the shaft.
