98 cobra speedometer issues

98 cobra speedometer issues
Hey guys,
I did some research on here because my speedo on my 98 cobra has stopped working. I read on other threads that it could be the VSS or the gears behind the cluster. My question for you experts is: If the odometer and the trip meter are still cranking and the speedo is the only thing not working, does that sound more like a VSS than anything? The car only has 39k miles, so I cant picture anything else being worn out (like gears etc.) Thank you very much for your help!
