Default A few questions...

1.) How much HP can a 289 engine block take?

2.) How much HP can a 302 engine block take?

3.) What is the CI(cubic inch) of the 99-04 V8 stangs?

I'm not sure about the max power on the 289 and 302, but the 4.6 engine is 281 cubes. If you are going to go for alot of power, you should probably just buy a new block or stroke it.

Most people agree that the 302 is good for around 450-500 crank hp and not much more, the 289 I really don't know but I would guess it to be about the same, however to reach that hp level with such a small engine would result in a very radical motor. There are ways to improve the strength of a block such as, partial block filling, main stud girdles and so on. I would decide what your goals are and go from there, if you really think yo will have that much power, your better off with an aftermarket block.

Well like I said its not going to be a drap strip car so my goal for HP would be around 350-400 maybe even lower....but nothing lower then 305 or so. So do you think the 289 block can take that?

It will hold but why don't you get a 5.0 block they are cheap, have roller cams and the extra CI will make it easier to and cheaper to hit your goal

whats the CI on a 5.0 block? Is'nt it 302? And if I got a 5.0 block I would want to buy one that has been used but in good shape because if Im not mistaken the stock 5.0 block new is'nt too cheap.
