Doing your own mods
There are alot of people out the are who are overwelmed (if thats how you spell it). because if you read a shop manual it kinda scares the sh%# out of you. But anyone with a little common knowlege of how a engine works well be fine. because once you actually start doing the work you'llstart to understand what they were talkin about. And when you'r all done the job you'll feel greatabout what you just did. And know can go buy another perforemance part with the money you just saved your self in labor.</P>

I totally agree with hotrodman. No mechanic in the world (short of specialized professionals) is trustworthy enough to leave my babies in their care. I do EVERYTHING myself, minus the machine work, which I can't do myself because I can't afford $100,000 shop machines. I rebuild my own engines, do all my own body work, welding, and painting, interior, whatever. If it has to be done (except in the case of my current transmission rebuild which had to be left in the hands of the boys at AAMCO because I don't have the tools or experience or time to handle it myself), it's done by me. My first engine rebuild was my Pontiac 400, and for a first-timer, it turned out pretty damn good. It roars!
You dont' trust anybody and you took your tranny to AAMCO? I guess I just happen to be lucky enough to have 5-6 great independanttrans shops around here and would never have to consider them.
