Really my old car would not hold a jump with the battery in but after a new battery and alternater it started fine using the old wires

 

Can someone explain what it does and where the "solenoid" is actually located???

 

On the starter. It engages the starter with the flywheel (pushes in a gear). Just replace the battery, or your friend can push start his car if he doesn't want to buy one. The solenoid should be fine if you here a clicking when trying to start it. The battery just doesn't have enough power to turn the starter.

 

Yeah, the old mustangs had the solenoid separate fom the starter, but you guys have it attached to the starter. Take your starter into a parts place and have iit checked.

 

I've heard that before....push start, what exatly does this mean?

 

Get the car rolling, in gear, clutch engaged, ignition on. Roll fast enough so that the car has enough momentum to transfer rolling power from the wheels into turning power for the engine. Ease of the clutch, give it a little gas, and bam, car should be running.

 

awesome trick...would it work though in my friends case with his battery dead/alternator???

 

If the alternater is done the battery woulnt charge. If its a dead battery it will get you around but i heard push starting often is bad for the car
